Huge Fire Erupts Near Panama’s Bridge of the Americas
The explosion, which occurred in La Boca, Balboa, was triggered by a tanker truck and prompted the immediate closure of traffic on the bridge, one of Panama’s key transport routes.
Although the blast did not take place on the bridge itself, the intense flames beneath it raised concerns about potential structural damage.
Panama’s fire service said the incident was first reported around 4:12 PM local time. Firefighters arriving at the scene found multiple trucks ablaze, with nearby tanks also at risk.
Reinforcements from several stations were dispatched to contain the fire.
Two people with second-degree burns were rescued and treated by firefighters. Crews also searched for anyone potentially trapped while conducting cooling operations. Later reports confirmed one death and two firefighters injured while combating the blaze.
